Tonight, is the great final of Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Since 2003 I’m a big ESC fan and I watch the contest every year and vote for my favorite countries. This year the contest will take place in Lisbon, Portugal. I have listened to all finalists and chose my 4 favorite countries. I also noticed that ESC 2018 is all about women power. So many beautiful female artists will rock the stage in Lisbon with their strong vocals and fascinating performances tonight. In this blog post, I’ll present to you my top 4 countries.
- Finland: Saara Aalto – Monsters
“Monsters” is an anthem for the LGBTQ+ community by the Finnish lesbian singer Saara Aalto (31). She is a famous singer in Finland and now she will spread her high energy and talent across Europe. Saara sings about fighting your self-doubt and accepting yourself for who you are. Her vocals, the lyrics, the beat and the melody are all perfect together. I can’t wait to see her perform this song live on stage.
- Czech Republic: Mikolas Josef – Lie to Me
Mikolas Josef is probably one of the youngest participants this year. With his only 22 years and musical talent, he will represent the Czech Republic with a self-written break-up song. His song “Lie to Me” is anything than sad. It will remind you of Jason Derulo’s 2013 hit single “Talk Dirty” because of the trumpet and trombone during the chorus. In the lyrics Mikolas sings about his ex-girlfriend how she has cheated on him. He declares her as a liar and as a cheater.
- Cyprus: Eleni Foureira – Fuego
The 31-years-old female singer from Greek with Albanian roots will represent Cyprus with an upbeat dance love song. Eleni is singing about how her lover makes her feel like, sung in a metaphoric way by using the element fire. The lyrics don’t offer a deep meaning but her strong vocals and the dance beat will make you feel the power of her love and will make you dance for sure.
- Israel: Netta – Toy
Israel was my favorite country last year and surprisingly this year again. According to YouTube, it’s also the most watched music video of all participating countries. Netta is an Israeli singer and looping artist. She can really do a lot of different crazy sounds with her mouth and she proofs her talent with “Toy”. In her lyrics she is dissing stupid boys and telling them that she’s not their toy. It’s more about the fact that women shouldn’t be objectified by men. It’s a crazy fun song with a great message. I really hope that she will be the winner this year.
